Last Christmas I challenged myself to keep gift-giving to a pretty small budget. Not really sure what to get my boyfriend (of 3 years!) I decided to give him the gift of “12 Months of Dating”. The concept… to try and come up with 12 dates we could go on each month for 12 months that would cost little to no money at all AND have a mini album of all our dates documented into one cute little keepsake album. What I came up with was pretty genius, actually, since my boyfriend thought it was a thoughtful and AwEsOmE gift and my friends and blog followers have found it so fun to watch the unveiling of each date every month.
*TEASER* Be watching my blog in July for a Workshop on the 12 Months of Dating coming your way! ;)
With the 12 Months of Dating comes 1 simple rule:
1. Each date card can only be opened by the recipient on or after the 1st day of the month, but only in the presence of the gift giver.
Now, being that I lost all my previous blog posts in my website update the other night (Bah!) I have decided to recap the last 5 months to the best of my ability. …Also, a special THANK YOU from my friend Bonnie for prompting me to showcase this on my blog again. ;)
Rafe and I have never been to the horse races so I thought it would be fun to check it out. We took a morning seminar at Portland Meadows to learn how to beat the odds in betting. (Apparently there is more to betting than just picking the fastest horse or the horse with the funniest name…who knew?!) We had a GREAT time and spent the entire day at the track learning and exploring! Definitely something we will be doing again from time to time.
Yeah well, what can I say about this one? Our February date was suppose to take us on a Snow Day up to Mt. Hood and we would visit the little Candy Shop that sits half way between my house and the mountain. We kinda got this freak snow storm here in the Portland, OR (8″ of pure white beauty!) and if I had been wearing my thinking cap Rafe and I could’ve taken a picture together next to a snow bank somewhere while eating cupcakes – Doh! lol INSTEAD, we found our way out of town on one of the last flights before the airport was shut down (seriously!) and spent a few days in sunny California at Disneyland (with 2 of the 5 kiddos we have between us)! …Of course, if I had thought to wear my thinking cap again we could’ve gotten a picture of us standing beside the Matterhorn instead of the Castle – Doh! Oh well. Leave it to me to have 20/20 hindsight. ;)
Fully knowing that Rafe and I would be heading to Costa Rica (the incentive trip I earned with Close To My Heart!) I wanted to be sure to choose a date that wouldn’t cost us any money. Kinda funny, though, that we had to go out and buy a brand new Monopoly game because neither one of us had it. LOL Oh well. …We also bought some Chewy Spree candies (Yum!) and spend an evening wheelin’ & dealin’ in our PJ’s until I gave in and let Rafe win! He’s just so stingy when it comes to trading. ;) So YEP, I admit it… I tossed the game so that the Marathon would only last several hours instead of several days! Besides, he’s pretty much a poor sport when he loses and it’s only fair that I LET him win at something. *teehee*
After doing a little research I found out that the Tulip Farm would be in bloom during April and since it would be at a half way point in a journey to Spirit Mountain Casino I thought HOW FUN! Yeah well, we didn’t quite make it there…YET! LOL Of course now when we decide to go the tulips won’t be in bloom but maybe luck will be on our side and we’ll win enough to be able to buy some tulip bulbs with our money… Oooh! <—-That there is some positive thinking, dontcha think? ;)
While I was coming up with date ideas I did a lot of research into things around Portland that maybe I didn’t know existed… Glow in the Dark Mini Golf was one of the things I found – Who woulda thunk it?! Of course, April seemed to get away from us, too, so this date is on raincheck status with the last several. lol We have every intention of getting there so that I can beat Rafe (again!)…it’s just a matter of making time to do all these things. But that’s what summer is for, right? :)
