Grilly Wonka: Rafe’s Golden Grill Moment

There’s magic in the moment when a man meets his grill—and in this case, it came with a golden ticket from my girls and their spouses. That’s why this week’s Sweet Start Sketch Club layout is a tasty tribute to my husband Rafe and the new Traeger grill he received for his 55th birthday.

For Rafe’s 55th birthday, my daughter Alyssa and her husband Tyler teamed up with my other daughters and their spouses to surprise him with a brand-new Traeger. It was a thoughtful, generous gift straight from the kids—and my only job was to help pick it up. That meant trying (and failing) to sneak Rafe into Home Depot without tipping him off. He figured it out almost immediately, which made for a hilarious memory. And when it came time to set up the grill, the app prompted him to give it a name. That’s how “Grilly Wonka” was born… and yes, I’m still laughing.

This playful 2-page layout puts the spotlight on all things grilled and gifted. I featured some of Stampin’ Up!’s Turtle-y Cute paper and paired it with some Two-Toned Cardstock. I added a Cricut smoker cut and golden ticket to give it a fun “Willy Wonka meets backyard BBQ” twist, while using some alphabet dies to bring some boldness to the page. And that little turtle chef with grilling tools? I snuck him into the corner like he’s ready to flip a burger for the fam.
