Why I’m Obsessed with Two-Toned Cardstock
If you’ve hung out with me for two minutes, you know I’m obsessed with two-toned cardstock. It’s the paper that makes me do a little happy wiggle every time I use it. Let me show you why this humble hero deserves a permanent spot on your crafting shelf — and why it might just change the way you scrapbook.
Why I Love It
🥳 It’s like getting two for one.
One side’s deeper, one side’s lighter. That means instant variety — perfect for layering mats, titles, borders, and die cuts without hauling out a hundred sheets to find matching tones.
👀 It adds sneaky dimension.
Sometimes you want texture and depth without using foam tape or bulky embellishments. Flipping to the lighter side does the trick. It’s subtle, classy, and makes your pages look professionally designed.
💸 It actually saves money.
Because you get two coordinating shades on one sheet, you’re basically buying half the paper stash you’d normally need. More money left over for cute stamps (or cupcakes — I’m not judging).
📸 It photographs beautifully.
I love how my layouts pop when the lighter and darker shades play off each other. They make titles and journaling shine, and they give photo mats that extra ‘oomph.’
🪵 It’s made for distressing.
Because this cardstock has a white inner core, it’s absolutely perfect for tearing or ripping to show off that lighter edge. Or take a sanding block across the surface for a worn, vintage vibe. It’s basically instant texture without any extra supplies.
My Personal Two-Toned Love Story
Two-toned cardstock was a staple back in my CTMH days — wildly popular among scrapbookers, and for good reason. When I made the transition over to Stampin’ Up!, I wasn’t alone in crossing my fingers that they’d bring this concept into their line.
Turns out, I didn’t have to worry. Many SU designers were absolutely thrilled when Stampin’ Up! decided to adopt two-toned cardstock. It basically doubled the SU color families overnight by giving us two shades on one piece.
So as a lifelong CTMH consultant-turned-Stampin’-Up!-demo, I could rest easy knowing my favorite cardstock style would stay consistent. That means my pages still have the depth and effortless shading I’ve always loved — just with even more yummy SU colors.
