Sketch & Savor: Worth the Trip

Some trips are memorable because of the landmarks.
Others earn their place in the album because of the unexpected moments that stop you in your tracks.
For us, Rome delivered that surprise through dessert.

Sketch & Savor scrapbooking layout featuring travel and ice cream cones with Cricut cuts of a traveling airplane.

This was the first leg of our three-city anniversary trip in 2023, and while we expected history, beauty, and a lot of walking, we didn’t expect Italian desserts to completely reset our expectations. Gelato in Rome tasted nothing like the versions back home. It was creamier, fresher, and somehow lighter all at the same time. And the cannoli? I don’t know that I’ve ever truly tasted one before this trip, because nothing I’ve had since has come close.

When scrapbooking this trip, I didn’t want to work chronologically or spread these photos across multiple pages. I wanted one layout that represented the entire experience of Italian desserts—the surprise, the delight, and the quiet understanding that some things really are best enjoyed in the place they were created. One spread. One story. No overexplaining.

This Sketch & Savor layout was perfect for that. It lets the photos do most of the talking while still leaving room for a short paragraph that ties everything together. The design stays calm, even with multiple photos, which makes it ideal for travel memories where the visuals carry the weight of the experience.

This is exactly what Sketch & Savor is about—using a smart sketch to tell a meaningful story without overthinking the process or adding pressure to say everything. You don’t need to document every stop. Just the moment that made it worth the trip.

If you’re sitting on travel photos and not sure how to tell the story, this sketch gives you a clear place to start.
